Part-Time Web Editor

Worldpress.org is seeking a part-time Web Editor

An interest in the international press is a must. A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is crucial. The individual must be highly motivated and able to work independently. Solid, demonstrated knowledge of Photoshop, HTML, Dreamweaver, ColdFusion, and Microsoft Word is required. Must be comfortable learning new software/programs.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Editing submitted articles from correspondents around the world, some for whom English is a second language.
  • Developing news features.
  • Writing "viewpoint" articles focusing on issues currently being discussed in the international press.
  • Coding edited news stories in HTML and publishing them on Worldpress.org.
  • Sending out e-mail newsletters.
  • Helping to update and maintain the site.

A viable candidate must be able to follow style guidelines (The New York Times Manual of Style and Usage). We are particularly interested in someone who can work with other programmers' code, has experience managing a Web site, can work with our advertising management system, understands the best practices in areas such as Web standards and structured programming, and has an interest in developing and improving the Web site.

Two to three years experience preferred. Please send URLs with resume.

Physical location is not critical, but the New York metropolitan area would be ideal.

Send your resume, cover letter, and hourly salary requirements with "Web Editor" in the subject line to tschure@worldpress.org.
