Viewpoints: Donald Trump Supporters
Trump has ruthlessly offended and disparaged women, war veterans, the disabled, his opponents, and many ethnic groups.
He has said that he wants to deport millions of undocumented immigrants and has called Mexican immigrants rapists and murderers. Trump has threatened to build a wall along the Mexican border and force Mexico to pay for it.
He has called for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States. He has repeatedly claimed that he watched thousands of Muslims in New Jersey celebrating in the streets after the 9/11 attacks, even though his assertion has been widely debunked.
He has incited his supporters and defended physical attacks on protesters who have been ejected from his rallies. Trump watched in silence and dismissed the violent behavior of several men who physically and verbally assaulted a young African-American woman while many of his supporters cheered as she stumbled.
Trump claimed that he didn’t know anything about white supremacists or about David Duke himself and couldn’t condemn a group he hadn’t yet researched. He admires various foreign strongmen and dictators and has even retweeted a quote from Mussolini.
So why is Trump so popular?
