Mayors of the 30 Largest Cities in the U.S.

[Updated 9/14/25]

The current partisan breakdown of the 30 largest U.S. cities mayors is 27 Democrats, 2 Republicans, and 1 independent.

The person you elect as mayor affects your day-to-day life more than the politicians you send to Washington, D.C., yet turnout is meager in mayoral races.

Public safety is one of the most critical jobs of any mayor, which is why the role of a mayor has become increasingly critical and high-profile over the past few years.

Across the U.S., despite their importance, only 15 to 27 percent of eligible voters cast ballots in local elections.

Vote for your mayor like it’s a matter of life and death on the streets of America’s cities, because it is.

And the larger the city, the more crucial your vote is.

Below are the mayors of the 30 largest cities in the U.S.
