During the war, several thousand people gathered in a walled compound on the grounds of the U.S. Embassy. On June 25, two mortars exploded, killing 10 people and wounding around 90. It wasn't clear whether government or rebel forces had fired the mortars.

Victims of the attack are brought to an emergency clinic run by Doctors without Borders.
